In this project we are touching the sensitive topic of air pollution of the Czech republic. We want to describe the situation of air pollution and show the most polluted areas in our country, then point out the influence of air pollution on humans and environment. Also to present some intervention of czech government to decrease the air pollution. According to the Czech scientists research that quality of the air we breathe is affecting our health for decades. In the 1980s the most serious polutant in our country was sulphur dioxide, which was produced mainly by coal power plant and households using coal for heating. With the Velvet revolution in the Czech Republic in 1989 air pollution has changed. While air pollution in industrial areas has improved, it got polluted more in big cities, due to the huge increase in car traffic. The air we brathe in cities is filled with fine dust particles which contain harmfull chemical substances from car fumes from which are the worst carcinogenic polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PHAs). They are responsible for about 50% of biological activity which cause genetic damage in the DNA code which can cause seriously diseases like cancer and also harm the reproduction cycle. These bad conditions for living in this area become more apparent if we look at the increasing number of respiratory deseases among children. Many of them suffer from alergy, asthma or other lower respiratory tract illnesses just because of the air pollution. So thanks to the science we could research the harm effect of air pollution on the environment and all living organisms and based on that we can use it to at least slow down the process until we find a way how to stop it completely and brathe free again.
